17 swimmers named for Carifta
published: Monday | March 31, 2003

THE AMATEUR Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ) has named seventeen swimmers to represent the island at the Carifta Swimming Championships April 19-21 at the National Stadium Pool.

Synchronised Swimming will be a part of Carifta for the first time and it is expected that at least three countries; Jamaica, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, will participate in the competition.

The synchronised swimmers will compete in three Age Groups: 12 and Under, 13-15 and 16-18. Jamaica's strongest swimmers will compete in the 13-15 age. The group, Nicole Chin Shue, Yasmin Eyre, Rebecca Wong and Emily Eyre all competed at the 2002 Caribbean Island Swimming Championships where they won a bronze.

Aruba are expected to provide the stiffest competition for the Jamaicans as the Arubans have dominated Caribbean Synchronised Swimming in recent years.

The 17 swimmers selected are: - Nicholene Bryan, Michelle-Ann Gabbadon, Ashlei Gayle, Jessica Lim Sang, Marissa Webber, Tahira Scott-Anderson and Kathryn Williams (12-Under); Jhanelle Adams, Stephanie Barrett, Gillian Belnavis, Nicole Chin Shue, Emily Eyre, Yasmin Eyre and Rebecca Wong (13-15); Ilia Gayle, Jean-Ann James and Candene Myers (16-18).

Head coach is Katherine Lim Sang. Her assistant is Michelle McIntyre. Ann Silvera will manage the synchronised swimming team.
