Jamaica lift WI Under-15 title

Trenchfield... top scored with 45.

KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT, CMC:

JAMAICA became the new West Indies Under-15 cricket champions by defeating front-runners Guyana by three wickets when the tournament concluded on Monday.

Guyana won the toss and chose to bat at Sion Hill, scoring 131 all out in 49 overs and three balls.

They were restricted by fast bowler Aaron Downer, who took four wickets for 43 runs in his 10 overs and was named Man-of-the-Match, as Anthony Foster, Guyana's opening bowler top-scored with 22.

Abdul Salim chipped in with 21 and Danny Narine 15.

Rashid Outar (2-13) and Dave Dythe (2-24) both took two wickets for Jamaica.

In reply Jamaica finished 132 for seven wickets in 44 overs and two balls, as captain Jamie Trenchfield top-scored with 45 with some support from Nicoy Samuels (17).

Buddlian Baksh (2-17) returned the best figures for Guyana, while captain Krishna Deosarran took two wickets for 24 runs and Navindra Pooran two for 27.

Guyana who finished with eight points, the same as Jamaica placed second in the tournament.

At Arnos Vale, Trinidad and Tobago triumphed over the Windward Islands by 24 runs to place third in the tournament. Batting first, Trinidad and Tobago scored 190 for seven wickets in their 50 overs, with Man-of-the-Match Kevon Francois top-scoring with 76 not out, as he was well supported by Jeewan Ramroop (31) and Soman Maraj (26).

In their turn at the crease the Windwards were bowled out for 166 in 44 overs and three balls. Lauron Francois top-scored with 44 while Benson Byron got 39 runs.

Barbados crushed the Leeward Islands by 185 runs at Stubbs, due mainly to a six wicket haul from Man-of-the-Match Kemar Roach, who conceded 37 runs in his 10 overs.

The Barbadians amassed 275 all out in 49 overs and five balls, batting first, as Simon Steele's 70 was the highest score, with support coming from Carlos Brathwaite (37), Adrian Maynard 28 and Jonathan Carter 23.

The Leeward Islands were then routed for 90 in 28 overs, with some resistance coming from Orlando Peters (22) and Alan Powell (14).

Barbados with four points after two wins and two losses, the same as the Windward Islands, however, placed fifth since they were earlier beaten by the Windwards who were fourth in the competition.

The Leewards finished bottom of the table, having lost all of their matches.
