THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM a Jamaican national residing in New York, who recently returned from visiting Jamaica during the Easter holidays. It was only my second day in Jamaica that my family and I had lunch at the Island Grill restaurant in Twin Gates Plaza.
The food was wonderful and we left. Some three hours later, after visiting family and stopping at other local delights, I realised that my handbag was nowhere to be found and that I had left it at the restaurant.
I began to panic. My 'life' was in that bag. It included my family's passports, green cards and other travel documents, large sums of $US, my cell phone, wallet with credit cards etc.
My brother-in-law called the restaurant and they told me my bag was there. I was nervous, in quite a state wondering if my possessions were intact. When I received the bag, I hurriedly looked through and found that not one item was missing.
I still get emotional when I recount what happened that day, I learned two main lessons that day: first, leave my documents and important items at home but second, and most important, that there are still a lot of good people in this world who live by values of honesty and integrity. I hereby convey my deepest gratitude and utmost respect to Ms. Andrean Thompson, the employee who worked the lobby area that day, 4/11/03, and to the management and staff of Island Grill, 28 Twin Gates Plaza.
I am so proud of my people and so deeply touched.
