A credible idea
published: Tuesday | April 29, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE PROPOSAL put forward by Ed Bartlett in the current budget debate, to explore the possibility of establishing entertainment centres in the tourist resort areas is a very credible one.

However I feel this vision should extend much further, and include establishing entertainment centres and community theatres throughout Jamaica including the rural areas. There is a wealth of bright talent within our rural communities that need a window of opportunity to shine forth onto the national and international stage.

This endeavour if managed carefully, efficiently and passionately will contribute greatly to community and national development. This initiative will fuel the prospects for 'community tourism' within communities across Jamaica, and by so doing sustain and stimulate indigenous cultural expression. The possibilities are numerous calling for adequate exploration and initiation.

I am etc.,
