STETHS, Holmwood in close battle

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS St. Elizabeth Technical fought back against Holmwood Technical to leave the WILCO/Headley Cup championship match nicely balanced after 20 wickets fell on yesterday's second day at Chedwin Park.

At the end of the day's play, the scoreboard read, Holmwood Technical 142 off and 102, STETHS 109 and 31 for two.

Resuming on their first innings on 42 for two, STETHS were immediately in trouble when overnight batsmen Shawn Findlay, eight, and Jowayne Powell, one, went to the bowling of Uriel Samuels at 51 for four.

Vinard Woolcock, 10, and Marashan Salmon, 30, posted 26 runs for the sixth-wicket before Woolcock went to a bad-pad catch off left-arm spinner David Powell. STETHS lost their last five wickets for 32 runs - including that of included Dwayne Ewart who had retired hurt on the opening day for two.

Offspinner Ziggy Levy, three wickets for 11 runs, Powell three for 21, Damion Sangster, two for 18, and Samuels two for 21 took the wickets for Holmwood.

Batting a second time, Holmwood lost Omar Watson, seven, Andre McCarthy, nine, Donovan Sinclair, two, Levy, six, and were in trouble at 27 for four before Powell, 26 run out, and Hugh Blackwood, eight, staged a slight recovery with a fifth-wicket stand of 30.

Jerome Taylor, four for 45, and Woolcock, three for 35, were the leading bowlers for STETHS.

Boris Hutchinson slammed two sixes before he was last out for 16.

Chasing 136 for victory, STETHS lost Zaniffe Fowler, three, and Anthony Swaby, five. The not out batsmen were Davian Davidson on 12 and Findlay on 10.
