Calling on the DPP

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE SLIPPERY feet of justice in Jamaica have taken another slide with the incident at Crawle in Clarendon and I think it is time to call on the Director of Public Prosecutions to take a more pro-active role in the investigations now being conducted by the Police. Justice will not appear to be done if the Police are left to investigate the very serious allegations being made against their members; and silence or inaction by the DPP and the Police Complaints Authority seems totally inappropriate in this matter.
The DPP must not wait for the Police to bring him their findings, for the enormity of this alleged crime demands that he goes to the scene himself, takes charge of the investigation and directs the Police as to what he requires in the diligent pursuit of truth and justice. He must act without delay, for every lost moment provides opportunity for the contamination of evidence and the manufacturing of circumstances for or against those accused.
