Dade County declares Caribbean Shipping Day
published: Tuesday | May 20, 2003

MAY 19 was declared Caribbean Shipping Association (CSA) Day in Dade County, Florida. The instrument of proclamation was presented by the Dade Country Commissioner, Jose Diaz, at the opening of the CSA Mid-Year Shipping Executives Conference at the Wyndham Miami Beach Resort in Florida.

The two-day meeting, which is to end today, got under way with more than 100 delegates addressing relevant issues affecting regional shipping.

UPHOLD THE IDEALS

In his welcoming address, CSA president Capt. Rawle Baddaloo said, "The region and the CSA as the representative of the regional maritime industry must uphold the ideals of multilateralism, co-operation and consensus formation to deal with issues of security, trade and economic development."

"We must ensure that all major stakeholders have an input on these critical issues so that decisions made will be well-informed and accepted by the majority," he stated.

The president said the mid-year meeting provided the forum for discussion, exchange of ideas and to facilitate strategic planning.
