NATIONAL EXPORT Week was officially launched yesterday under the theme 'Growing Jamaica's Export Through Improved Competitiveness' at the Hilton Kingston Hotel.
The week kicked off with a church service on Sunday (June 1) at the Webster Memorial Church in Kingston. National Export Week, is being observed from June 1 - 7, 2003 to recognise the contribution of the export sector to the country's economic development. The Jamaica Exporters Association (JEA) is spearheading the week's activities.
ACTIVITIES
Other activities for the week include two seminars 'Competitiveness in the Era of Global Competition' on June 3 at the Hilton Hotel in Kingston and 'Competitiveness in the Tourism Sector' on June 4 in Montego Bay.
The week will culminate with the National Export Week Annual Export Awards Banquet on Saturday June 7. At the Banquet special awards are usually given to companies for their performance in the export sector.
A main highlight at the Banquet will be the presentation of an award, named in honour of the late Pauline Gray, a former Executive Director of the JEA and General Manager of the Shipping Association of Jamaica who died under tragic circumstances in April this year. This Award will be given to a company in the Small and Micro Enterprise (SME) sector with proven consistency in product innovation and efforts aimed at improving competitive edge and overall export performance.
