The economy needs improvement
published: Wednesday | July 2, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE ECONOMY of Jamaica has seen some successes, such as technological advances. However, there is room for improvement.

The government has to implement better programmes to look after the people of Jamaica. The growing population is seen as a grave concern. The large number of students graduating from schools and colleges every year, cannot find any work. Thus, the mass exodus of skilled people migrating to different countries, seeking a better living and then create a brain drain for Jamaica.

The government has to look into the situation. As population increases, there are more demands for schools, hospitals and other services. A system has to be set up, where more investors can be attracted to invest more in the economy so that more people can be employed.

For the economy to turn around, tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing have to be revamped, long-term plans have to be implemented to meet the growing population. Production is a must or else the people will perish.

I am, etc.,
