Carib referees to officiate at Gold Cup

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC:

TWO REFEREES and four referee assistants from the English-speaking Caribbean will officiate in the upcoming Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Gold Cup.

Jamaican Peter Prendergast and Richard Piper of Trinidad and Tobago are the two referees, while the assistants come from the Bahamas, Jamaica and the twin-island republic.

The tournament kicks off on July 12 with Costa Rica coming up against Canada at the Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. It runs until July 27.

The 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup will be played at three locations in two different countries ­ Foxboro, Massachusetts; Florida and Mexico City, Mexico.

Twelve teams have registered for competition - United States, El Salvador, Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, Brazil, Jamaica, Colombia, Martinique, Guatemala, Honduras and Cuba.
