GUYANESE PRESIDENT Bharrat Jagdeo, has reiterated calls for better treatment of Guyanese at airports throughout the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
Jagdeo raised the issue at the Caribbean Heads of Government Conference which ended in Montego Bay yesterday.
He said the treatment often meted out to Guyanese travelling to regional countries was less than acceptable, and as such, he once again called on his counterparts to address the matter, according to a report from the Guyana Information Agency.
His concerns were echoed by Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, who committed his country to treating Guyanese fairly.
President Jagdeo also noted the the positive remarks of Barbados' Prime Minister Owen Arthur, regarding the issue of hassle-free travel within the country. Arthur pointed to the need for artisan Guyanese to be respected and accorded proper treatment when travelling in the Region, GINA added.
It noted that President Jagdeo has made repeated calls for the fair treatment of Guyanese upon their entry into CARICOM countries, since in the past there have been some cases where Guyanese were given a hard time when travelling within the region.
