THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with great pleasure that I sat and observed the various proceedings leading up to the Local Government elections. I was becoming very concerned about the health of democracy within the Jamaican society, but I can make a sigh of relief because it is now evident that the people in fact still have a voice.
I am concerned, though, about the issue of co-operation among the various parties will they truly seek to address the various concerns of the citizens, or will they still just try to build up points for the next general election?
I am a young Jamaican woman with high hopes for Jamaica and I, (like many of my fellow Jamaican) would really like to see our leaders work together with a common goal to develop on the positives of this beautiful country, and try to eradicate the bad.
May God direct all our new mayors and councillors; and may our Members of Parliament stop lamenting on what they could have done wrong; stop wasting the people's money setting up unnecessary committees, and focus on the efficient and effective governance of Jamaica. While they lament, the economy is deteriorating, criminals are out there taking over the various sections of the country, people are losing their jobs and their lives.
So please stop crying over losses and instead go back to the drawing table and recreate a positive picture.
I am, etc.,
