Team is doing well, says Torres

CARLO ALBERTO Torres was a pleased man at the end of training yesterday.

Torres, who captained Brazil to victory in the 1970 World Cup final and the man preparing a Rio de Janeiro state team for a friendly against the national team at the Stadium on Sunday, was very happy with a workout at Arnett Gardens.

"The team is doing well," Torres said at the end of a game against a pick-up side.

"Of course we cannot expect too much from the team in the scrimmage but they tried to move and use the ball ... we are very confident," Torres said.

While the opposition, which included the likes of Fabian Davis, Kevin Wilson and Gregory Simpson, was not the strongest, what impressed most about them was their mastery of the basics.

Young guns China and Fabiano delighted with their touch while veterans Bebeto, Careca and Goncalves showed that while they were slowed by age, they still possessed the skills of old.

"They are very good players. We have a good blend of players ... we have the experience of Bebeto, Careca, goalkeeper Wagner and Goncalves to work with the younger ones," added Torres who again promised "a beautiful game".
