Jamaica's Mason to compete at Tallin international meet
published: Wednesday | July 30, 2003

TALLIN, Estonia, CMC:

JAMAICA'S WORLD-RATED high jumper Jermaine Mason is listed for an appearance at the Tallin 2003 international meet in the Estonian capital today.

Currently No. 6 on the 2003 world "Performance List" with his national record 2.31 metres, the improving Mason will challenge top-rated Mark Boswell of Canada, and American Jamie Nieto in the event.

Mason is a double World Junior Championship medallist - silver in Chile in 2000, and bronze last year in Jamaica.

Jamaica-born two-time world 200-metre champion Merlene Ottey, now representing Slove-nia, is also down to compete.

The 43-year-old Ottey, a multiple Olympic and World Cham-pionship medallist, is entered for the women's 100 metres.

The meet also features two current world leaders - Cuban triple jumper Yamile Aldama, and Australian Patrick Johnson, whose 9.93 run - in Mito in May - remains the quickest men's 100-metre run so far this year.
