THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE LEADERS of the two major political parties are soon to relinquish their posts as head of their respective parties.
The question who should replace them is now on in earnest. The Jamaican people have their favourites and the candidates are coming forward to throw their hats in the ring. The constitution of the two parties, I am sure, clearly states the process for replacing the leader. However, there is one question that I need an answer to: it is: what if the person within the party who could do the best job is not a deputy leader or he or she has just joined the party?
I firmly believed that the next two people to head these parties should have a clear and defined vision for Jamaica before he or she is elevated to the posts. The leader, in my opinion, should not be selected based on how long he or she is in the party, the number of party faithful that they can amass, who the outgoing leader wishes to replace him or her.
Jamaica is at a point in her history where we need to revolutionise the way we think and do things. As a result, we need someone who is not a career politician and someone who can galvanise the masses of Jamaica to work together. I am begging the media of Jamaica to grill the candidates who come forward to see what they have to offer Jamaica; polling alone won't do it.
To the people of Jamaica I say let your children's future and not your party affiliation, determine how you select you next party leader. One love.
I am, etc.,
