Good job Facey-Cooper

The Editor Sir: I WHOLEHEARTEDLY commend your balanced editorial (August 6, 2003) re the artistic merits of the Emancipation Park sculpture. Indeed, Laura Facey-Cooper has powerfully delineated the beauty and dignity of the Afro-Jamaican body with all of its bountiful musculature. Facey-Cooper's Emancipation Park sculpture would be at home in any of the great metropolitan art museums and she has proven herself to be our very own Michelangelo, equal to the task of immortalising the physical grace of heroes. In closing, I urge the powers that be, to commission Facey-Cooper to execute an equally monumental statue of our revered cultural icon Rex Nettleford to be erected in front of the Little Theatre. This would be a fitting tribute to his heroic status and longevity in our national institutions. I am etc., Kofi Blackwood E-mail: kblcwd@yahoo.com
