Nadz raps in a cinema of her own
published: Friday | August 15, 2003

RAPPER NADZ stepped on what is hopefully another rung on the ladder to hip hop success when her single I Hate This made it to the Paramount Pictures summer action flick Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life soundtrack.

In tribute to this the lobby of the Carib 5 cinemas at Cross Roads in St. Andrew, was temporarily transformed into a performance area for the single's release party on Wednesday evening. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, starring Angelina Jolie, opened locally on Independence Day, August 6, and was released in the United States on July 25.

I Hate This, produced by Steven Ventura's M-Phatic Records, joins P.O.D.'s Satellite, Moby's Jam For The Ladies and Tears From the Moon by Conjure One featuring Sinead O'Connor among others on the soundtrack. However those who make it to the cinema will not hear Nadz' track during the movie, since it was given the 'Rest In Peace' tag on the editing room floor.

The release party was sponsored by Coca-Cola, for whom she has voiced the Caribbean version of the Coca-Cola 'Real' campaign. The 'Real' campaign is targeted at 12 countries.

Although her hair is new, Nadz has evidently not allowed herself to become drunk on her success as her open and easy manner remains the same. The rapper informed The Gleaner that the new hairstyle is in keeping with her feeling for a change. Normally seen sporting cane rows, she pointed out that the shorter, loose hairstyle is in keeping with the music produced by Da Universal Players (DUP) a three member British pop/rock group with which she is also working. DUP is expected to release their first album later this year.

The current spurt in Nadz's career began with her wonderful performance at Caribbean Music Expo 2002, which earned her an encore performance and brought her to the attention of Dave Stewart of Artiste Network. Artiste Network also manages DUP.

As a result, Nadz informed The Gleaner that she would easily recommend the expo to any aspiring artiste. She noted that she was quite thankful for being a winner of the talent search and is thus grateful to Abijah, who she said constantly harangued her about sending in an entry.
