Nudity is not emancipation

THE EDITOR, Sir: WHEN I think of slavery, I think of chopping cane in complete or partial nudity. I think of being deprived of clothing, as not being seen as having any right to be covered decently. When I think of emancipation from slavery, I think of being able to wear clothing, finally! I think of being allowed to wear what we worked for, what our neighbours further north picked cotton for, just as surely as now being able to enjoy the sugar we ourselves have produced. I don't think nudity when I think Emancipation. Apparently, the artist differs with me. Unfortunately, many who would consider bringing children to Emancipation Park may choose not to do so. Others won't care either way. In any case, many adults don't care to see this item, which I have seen only in photos. I am, etc., ANTONNETTE THOMAS antonnette7777777@hotmail.com
