Moving culture

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON MY recent visit to Jamaica, I had the great opportunity to have some of my films on Jamaican culture screened in Livity Restaurant in Kingston.

Already back to my home country, Austria, I received the article by Mel Cooke in The Gleaner of August 15, commenting on the event. I wish to express my thanks for the excellent reportage. It is unusual that someone captures the essence and mood of an event in the way Mr. Cooke did. I would also like to extend a big thank you for the perfect organisation and setting of the whole evening to Jamaica Media Productions, namely Barbara Makeda Blake Hannah who was regrettably not mentioned in the article.

Rarely, I suppose, a cultural event in Jamaica brings together various royal representatives of Rastafari houses, leading scholars of social science and the media. The films, I hope, demonstrated a fact that often goes unnoticed with many Jamaicans: that Jamaica is indeed a cultural capital of the world, if not the cultural capital of the world.
