THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WAS very grateful for the coverage of my Mexican exhibition by your newspaper. Unfortunately I am forced to write because of the inaccuracies that appeared in the article.
It was unfortunate that the reporter was unable to make it to the opening on Friday which might have provided him with more of a feel of the Mexican culture. Christopher Gonzalez opened the exhibition, traditional vegetarian Mexican appetisers such as salsa cruda , guacamole and refried beans were served, this complemented by shots of Jose Cuervo tequila and some lovely young ladies demonstrating the correct way to drink it accompanied with salt and lime, compliments of J. Wray and Nephew Ltd.
A visit to Colette's 'ethnic art, craft & accessories-organic products' exhibition last Saturday night.
That is the information on my business card. The exhibition was titled "Colette's Mexico".
The report said art was by Rodrigo Medina in the form of interesting mirrors, hats, statuettes and an extremely cute domino set. Mr. Medina made only the domino set and box which was of ironwood and produced in Sonora.
Marickel Mclef was said to be represented by paintings, medallions, clothes and Mayan and Aztec masks in leather.
The noted Mexican sculptress' name is Maridel Mcluf and she works in bronze. Her Adam and Eve were the 'piece de resistance' of the exhibition. These bronze pieces were sent to Jamaica courtesy of Ms. Mcluf who because of her great love of the Jamaican people wanted to share her work with them. She does none of the other things noted above.
The exhibition closed on Friday, August 29th.
