Sanitise where homeless persons sleep
published: Thursday | September 11, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT HAD been my custom to pay the Jamaica Public Service Company using the drop box at Knutsford Boulevard, on a Sunday, simply to avoid the weekday traffic.

However, last month, having to step over a homeless man sleeping on the steps, I decided that this was not a good idea.

Yesterday morning, being Monday, I pulled up alongside the curb, (I know there is no parking, but my daughter could move the car should it become necessary in the 30 seconds that I had stopped). As I opened the car door, the stench of stale urine coming from the area in front of the drop box was enough to make me feel ill.

If homeless persons must sleep on the steps, then can someone please in the mornings have the place washed down. Is this too much to ask?

I am, etc.,

(Dr.) JUDITH ROSE-SPENCER
