Bring crime under control
published: Tuesday | September 23, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CRIME IN Jamaica has reached epidemic proportions and it's time a serious effort be made to do something about it.

'Zero Tolerance' should be the order of the day and focus should also be on 'quality of life' issues. (Noise pollution, road rage, etc.) Take care of the minor problems and the big ones will be curtailed.

REPUTATION

Take a page from the book of the previous mayor of New York. Jamaica simply cannot afford the reputation as "the murder capital" of the world. It drives away business, foreign investments, retirees, and other visitors. Enough is enough. If outside help is needed so be it, but crime MUST be brought under control.

Those responsible for the bulk of the crime must be targeted without mercy and long prison sentences meted out to the offenders and by the way a few hangings would not hurt.

To hell with Amnesty International. They do not have to live with the problems, and furthermore Jamaica is a sovereign nation.

I am, etc.,
