THE EDITOR, Sir:A NEW 'Sufferers' Heights' project is blooming in Long Mountain to compete with the long-standing community of Beverly Hills and the recently-constructed houses adjacent to this community.
Travelling from the Norman Manley International Airport, one cannot avoid seeing the houses built on captured lands west of the Harbour View community.
They are similar to developments in place in Central Village at 'Sufferers' Heights'. If you travel along Mountain View Avenue, you cannot help but see the lush green hillside that borders the various communities along the way.
Turn on to Tankerville Avenue or cast your eyes to the right travelling northward in the vicinity of Stadium East, and you will see the beginning of the end of this lush hillside.
Over the past two years people have captured lots of land and in the past weeks are moving at a rapid pace to erode the hillside.
Who monitors such activities?
Who will compensate me and the other homeowners for the loss of value that will result from this scourge?
Why should we pay increased taxes for property that is destined for ruin because of a K.S.A.C and local government that have no authority or do not care?
Who will stop the beautiful mountainside from becoming bare and hostile?
Stop it now or face the hostility later.
I am, etc.,
NOEL DAWKINS
