THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAVE read in your newspaper letters where customers of the Registrar General's Department have grouses but I have a case which I believe will take the cake.
In June 1999 I applied at the Mandeville Branch of the RGD for two copies of a birth certificate on behalf of my ward. I paid the relevant fees, got the appropriate receipt and was promised that I would get the copies within a short period.
When this promise was not fulfilled I took the matter up with the Register General Office in Spanish Town. I had to re-submit information - place of birth etc., and cash receipt as well.
In December 2002 I received a letter stating that the record was located but the birth place of the mother was not entered, therefore the certificates could not be entered/processed. I replied giving the mother's place of birth.
To-date four and quarter years later, from the date of the application, I have not received the certificates applied for.
The next time your express application is not dealt with within a week think about my case This surely must be some kind of a record.
I am, etc.,
PATRICK NAM
