Get your facts straight, Fr Ho Lung
published: Wednesday | October 8, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAVE just read Father Ho Lung's article in your paper dated 5/10/2003 and wish to inform Fr. Ho Lung, through your medium, to do his research and get his statistics right.

He stated that 40% of Ugandans were HIV positive. If this were true, Uganda and not South Africa, would be the country with the highest percentage of HIV/AIDS infection in the world.

It is not, South Africa with 25% of it's people infected is the highest. Visiting Uganda does not make him an expert on AIDS statistics or prevalence. If he had done any reading at all he would know that Uganda and President Museveni have been hailed as a success story because of their efforts to bring down HIV infection rates from a high of 10% to about 7%. I invite him to visit web sites on this topic on the Internet.

I am, etc.,
