C&W clarifies billing concerns
published: Thursday | October 16, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

REFERENCE IS made to a letter captioned 'Switching off of Cable & Wireless' carried in the October 9 edition of your paper. For the purposes of truth and clarity we write to set out, once again, the facts concerning billing for calls made from our landlines.

Calls to cellular numbers are billed at rates set by the providers of cellular services in Jamaica. Cable & Wireless and Digicel bill calls from landlines to their cellular customers at the rate of $7.00 per minute or part thereof. Calls to MiPhone customers from landlines cost $6.95 per minute and are billed by the second. Cable & Wireless landline customers are billed by the second for overseas calls. Calls from Cable & Wireless landlines to other local landline numbers are billed by the minute or part thereof.

Telecommunications systems/equipment operated by service providers worldwide, treat calls answered by devices such as voice mailboxes and answering machines as billable.

Finally we wish to assure all our customers, that allegations of incorrect billing are thoroughly investigated and redress provided, where appropriate. It is our hope that these facts will at least assist in reminding customers of the procedures which govern the making of telephone calls from Cable & Wireless landlines.

I am etc.,

ANN ASTWOOD
