THE BUREAU of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) and the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) have indicated that they have reached an agreement on a framework that will guide the testing of meters.
The meeting Wednesday, attended by senior executives of both organisations, as well as of the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), agreed that there was a role for the Bureau in ensuring the accuracy of electricity meters. It was also agreed that the Bureau's role should not have adverse financial impact on customers or the JPSCo's operations.
FURTHER MEETINGS
The Bureau and JPSCo have agreed to further meetings to finalise the procedures to govern future meter testing based on the framework that was agreed on at the meeting.
Last week, the Bureau stated that it would be going ahead with plans to file charges against the light and power company this week for frustrating its attempts to test electrical meters.
The brouhaha was fuelled by the Bureau's plans to introduce a standards compliance programme where containers of all imported electrical meters are detained and tested at the ports of entry. JPSCo officials were concerned that the new costs to test meters would be more than the cost of a new meter.
