ANDRE PHILLIPS, 22-year-old labourer of Tower Street, Central Kingston, was yesterday charged for the recent attack on Detective Sergeant Gladys Brown-Campbell, the first police woman to become an attorney-at-law.
Phillips, also known as Omari Phillips and Miller, was held in the Southside area two weeks ago but was formally charged with felonious wounding and robbery with aggravation after he was pointed out in an identification parade yesterday.
Det. Sgt. Brown-Campbell, a 15-year veteran of the force, who is on secondment from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) to the Office
of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), was slashed in the abdomen and cut several times on September 29, as she resisted being robbed by a knife-wielding man in the full view of several onlookers.
"As soon as I saw him, I recognised him. My eyes went straight to him. There was no doubt in my mind. I am feeling a sense of relief that I have identified the right person and I am happy that I am okay," Det. Sgt. Brown-Campbell said last night.
