AFTER CONCEDING the first goal, Dinthill came from behind to edge Seaforth 2-1, despite torrential rain for the entire second half, in their Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup Group Six clash at the Prison Oval, Spanish Town yesterday.
Seaforth's Mervin Miller netted the opening goal in the 22nd minute after a harsh tackle by Dinthill's captain, Craig Richards, led to a free-kick at the edge of the 18-yard box. Seemingly avenging his teammate's pain, Miller booted a powerful shot past the outstretched arms of Sheldon Thompson giving the visiting team the advantage.
With tremendous support behind the St. Catherine team, Ishmael Lawes replied for Dinthill in the 34th minute after Seaforth's defence had trouble clearing the ball out of their area. Lawes, lying on the ground while trying to maintain some stability, connected with the straying ball to level the score.
The heavy showers made it more challenging to control the ball and again Seaforth were undone by an ineffective clearance.
Milton Murphy pounced upon a weak attempt by Seaforth's defence to clear the ball, powerfully striking a left footer past Dwayne Miller in the 75th minute.
Dinthill's coach, Frank Brown, said he was pleased with his team's performance particularly since it claimed the winning goal on a water-logged field.
"The team's performance was up to scratch. They came today to play and they executed well. It was very difficult because of the rain but we did the necessary things and we got the job done," Brown said.
