Wake up, Church!
published: Thursday | October 30, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AT PRESENT, Jamaica is plagued with many problems. At the same time, many are pointing fingers and blaming others for these problems. However, I believe the problem lies in the Church. The Church is responsible for what is happening in Jamaica because of its disobedience to God.

Jesus gave the Church two commissions: pray and preach the gospel to every nation! He never told the Church to get involved in politics, take sides, jump on bandwagons or set its own agenda to turn the nation back to God. God did say the Church is to pray for the nation and those in authority. Those in authority include the Prime Minister, the Opposition, lawmakers, the police, judiciary, financial leaders, etc.

Since the Church has 'decided' out of disobedience to keep itself divided and continue bickering over doctrines, Jamaica will continue to fall in the pit it is already sliding towards. I am not saying the Church should not be concerned about the political aspects or any other aspects of the nation, but it is too focused on everything else except what it was called to do: PRAY!

Righteousness does exalt a nation. People who do not know God are waiting and expecting the Church to point the way of righteousness.

I am, etc.,
