Jamaica Gleaner Letters

Teachers, learn the shortcuts
THE EDITOR, Sir: FOLLOWING THE recent reports on Jamaican teachers I feel obliged to give some valuable information. Firstly, Jamaican teachers should avoid agencies that treated us badly in 2001.

Overseas vote too expensive
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT COST millions of dollars to hold elections. With an added dimension, that of registering Jamaicans overseas to vote, the cost would be even greater.

The value of J'cans abroad
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT IS interesting to see the Government recognising that there are Jamaicans living abroad who can make contributions in the economic development of Jamaica - although it still appears that the focus is on remittances.

The SportsMax challenge
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS AN avid sports fan I followed the discussions on the concept of an all sports TV channel in Jamaica with great zeal and interest. So when SportsMax became a reality some weeks ago I was naturally very delighted.

Only correct travel advice
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WRITE to take issue with the comments reportedly made by Godfrey Dyer about the UK's travel advice for Jamaica, carried in Monday's Gleaner.

'Police used to be nice'
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WAS watching the CVM news when I heard that the police were shooting up people's backyard and spraying things in people's eyes.

Dead leaves need shedding
THE EDITOR, Sir: A TREE sheds dead leaves because dead leaves cannot utilise sunlight so as to let it blossom and bear fruits.

'Let nerves kill them'
THE EDITOR, Sir: I MAKE reference to an article in The Sunday Gleaner October 16, 2003 on anxiety about facing the gallows. I have a few words for Mr. Wayne Deny "let their nerves kill them".

Elect qualified persons
THE EDITOR, Sir: ELECTIONS ARE held so that one can exercise their right to choose their own leaders. The ruling party's contract with the public is based on one main concept, to act in the best interest of the people.

The side effect of the cure
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WOULD like to strongly suggest that the medical community play a role in informing the Jamaican consumers about all the side effects of their prescription medication.
