Bus crews and bad behaviour
published: Monday | November 10, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM responding to an article appearing in your columns on Friday November 7, 2003, 'NTCS buses not a problem'. As a citizen of Jamaica and a driver on our roads daily, I would really like to know what discipline and training is this 'loyal worker' of the NTCS company speaking about?

Are the drivers of this transport service trained to be the most unruly persons on our roads? Are they trained to use indecent language when they do wrong and you try to correct them? Are they trained to break every law in the road code? I truly would like to know what is this employee speaking about when she says that the NTCS bus crews are 'well trained and disciplined.'

These bus crews along with others and our taxi drivers are the worst set of drivers we have on our roads. They have no regard or respect for any other motorist on our roads, and I wonder if I should say our, as they use the road as if it is for their use only. I would like for the relevant authorities to do everything in their powers to eradicate this unruly behaviour on our roads. I would also appeal to this employee to revisit the words: training, discipline, courteous and intelligent and try to associate the meanings of these words with your daily behaviour on our roads.

I am, etc.,
