THE EDITOR, Sir:
IF YOU are in the Jamaica Labour Party and want to be a friend of the media, be an enemy of Mr. Seaga. What is driving the hatred for this man is yet to be declared but it is sold and so frequently to a people who are easily lead, and worse, steep in hearsay and traditions. The voices most frequently heard will definitely be followed.
Michael Manley was no doubt a failure in managing Jamaica, but he is seen as a success in contrast to Edward Seaga. P.J. Patterson and I am very sure will soon be sold as a success using the same media method and it will be believed and accepted.
My childhood indoctrination came from my loving grandmother, who used to shake her head and say, "I will never vote for a Syrian, and Mr. Seaga is a Syrian, and Syria invaded Israel without a cause."
I love and grew up in my earlier years with my grandmother. Luckily I am not a traditionalist and not a loyalist either. I voted for Michael Manley in 1989. I never voted in an election again until 1997 general elections for the NDM. I then voted JLP in the 2002 general election and the following local government election.
Anyway the point is Audley Shaw, Edmund Bartlett, Babsy Grange etc. will be battling against the media, while for now, Bruce Golding, and anyone who in the past, has taken a stance against Mr. Seaga will be given safe and friendly passage. Bet you any money that if Audley should make a declaration against Mr. Seaga tomorrow he would be an instant hit amongst those at the necessary point and position of influence.
I wish somebody (it does not have to be somebody honest, could come and tell me where I am wrong) and tell me the reason for their constant campaign against Mr. Seaga. Different period of time has different reasons. The good one now (which I agree with) is that he is too old. It's amazing those who weaken the JLP, are the first ones to turn around and say how weak the JLP is.
I am etc.,
