JAMAICA'S CARIBBEAN Football Union (CFU) Champions Cup semi-finalists Portmore United and Arnett Gardens suffered mixed results against Trinidad and Tobago teams in first leg action in the eastern Caribbean country last night.
National Premier League (NPL) champions Portmore United came out the better of the two after a goalless finish against W-Connection in their game at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium.
In the other game, reigning Trinidad and Tobago champions San Juan Jabloteh dismissed Arnett Gardens 3-1 in their first leg at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Battling for a spot in the final against the winner of the other semi-final between San Juan Jabloteh and Arnett, neither team could earn an advantage for the return match.
Portmore United went closest to scoring when Wolry Wolfe struck a splendid volley from the top of the box that crashed into the crossbar after only five minutes.
W-Connection had their best chance when Brazilian Gefferson Goulart collected a pass at the top of the box unmarked, but shot just wide of the left post.
REMAIN IN TRINIDAD
Portmore United will remain in Trinidad and Tobago for the return game tomorrow.
Austin Whitley shot Jabloteh 2-0 ahead and although Ray Graham's strike midway through the second half gave Arnett hope, Jabloteh emerged with a solid lead.
Jabloteh, coached by former England international Ricky Hill, will travel to Kingston for the return game at Arnett's home field next Wednesday at the Tony Spaulding Complex.
Whitley sent Jabloteh ahead in the 20th minute when his right-foot shot from outside the box squeezed under the diving Arnett goalkeeper, and six minutes before the break he increased his side's advantage.
Collecting a through pass, Whitley moved into the box and from the right side, he shot accurately to the inside of the far post.
Jabloteh went 3-0 up in the 50th minute when prolific scorer Cornell Glenn broke away and found the target with a left-footer.
Graham reduced Arnett's deficit when his shot from the left lobbed over the goalkeeper's head into the net at the far post.
