THE EDITOR, Sir:
ON MONDAY December 8, about 2.00 a.m. a thief tried to break into the home where I was staying, in Montego Bay. Upon discovering the attempt, the homeowner called 119. To us, it seemed like hours, but the police arrived within 10 minutes. Anyone who has been through a similar experience, will understand how traumatic the experience was. So one can imagine when the police arrive you are seeking compassion, understanding, your protection and a friend.
Well we found all that and more in four decent policemen. They are Constables Young, Pennington, Brown and Dawkins. Their response and concern for our immediate well-being was what we probably would never expect of our policemen. Those four gentlemen have drastically changed not only my view, but the general consensus we had of the police. These men after investigating the scene tried to secure the window that was broken into. Not being able to, they sealed off the room. They ensured we were secured.
We often take the time to complain about the ills in the Force and seldom do we celebrate and compliment the good men and women of the Force. I sincerely hope this is passed on to the men and women in command so that these policemen may be recognised by them for an outstanding job done.
Thanks again Constables Young, Pennington, Brown and Dawkins.
I am etc.,
