Pastor on rape charge
published: Thursday | December 18, 2003

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

A ST. CATHERINE-based Justice of the Peace and minister of religion who preaches at the Mount Zion Holy Church in Stony Hill, St. Andrew, was arrested and charged by the Spanish Town Police on December 16 with one count of rape allegedly committed against his 21-year-old household helper.

Police reports are that Rev. George Wilson Lovemore of the Hopedale housing scheme in St. Catherine was at home when he allegedly sneaked up behind the 21-year-old complainant, used one of his hands to cover her mouth and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

After the act, the complainant reportedly related her ordeal to a relative, and subsequently a formal report was made to the Spanish Town police. An investigation was launched which led to the arrest of Rev. Lovemore.

He is booked to appear in the Spanish Town RM court next Tuesday.
