JAMAICA IS one of 12 committees registered to bid for matches when the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) makes it first stop in the Caribbean in 2007.
A West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) release yesterday confirmed that CWC 2007 Inc. has registered 12 official bid committees for the Host Venue Selection Tender, which will determine the countries to host matches in the cricket World Cup.
The 12 bid committees, authorised by the recognised cricket association and government of each country, include: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Ber-muda, the Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.
The chairpersons of the registered bid committees in the 12 territories are Chris de Caires (Barbados); the Hon. Molwyn Joseph (Antigua & Barbuda); Reginald Pearman (Bermuda); Deborah Ebanks (Cayman Islands); Roy O'Neale (Grenada); Gail Teixeira (Guyana); Dr. Wayne Reid (Jamaica); Charles Wilkin (St. Kitts and Nevis); the Hon. Mario Michel (St. Lucia); Maurice Edwards (St. Vincent & the Grenadines); the Hon. Roger Boynes (Trinidad & Tobago) and Lance Gibbs (US).
ICC Venue Development Director for Cricket World Cup 2007, Donald Lockerbie, said: "For transparency purposes, we are enclosing the Bid Committee directory that lists all 12 countries registered, as well as listing the chairperson and two directors as the current leadership of each Bid committee."
The Bid Book, which will contain the detailed requirements for hosting matches in 2007, will be distributed on February 19, which will signal the start of the bid process.
