THE EDITOR, Sir:
WE HAVE sent the following letter to the Commissioner of Police:
Dear Commissioner,
I write on behalf of myself and some of the members of my community re: the transfer of Superintendent Harry Daley. Mr. Daley came to Western Kingston in 2002 and has done a tremendous job.
Gone are the days when the citizens that visit the station are labelled as 'police informer'. We can now converse with the police without being afraid that we will be intimidated or killed because we are associating with the police.
Superintendent Daley and his team have made it possible for us to walk through Hannah Town, Matthews Lane and Rema without being afraid. Recently there was a club social held in Hannah Town and an elderly lady from Tivoli Gardens visited with our group. On this visit, she met a friend of hers whom she had not seen in over 10 years. They hugged each other and cried.
Commissioner Forbes, the decision is yours to make but remember the motto of that noble institution that you head: 'We serve, we protect and we assure'. We need Harry Daley in Western Kingston because we are tired of being labelled in a negative light when we have no one to whom we can talk.
