CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, CMC:
THE LEEWARD Islands endured the indignity of following-on against the minnows of regional cricket, West Indies B, after folding in their first innings for 171, 168 runs short of their opponents' first innings total of 339, on the second day of their third round Carib Beer Series match at Grove Park yesterday.
At stumps the Leewards were struggling on 57 for three wickets, needing 111 more runs to avoid and innings defeat.
Debutant left-arm orthodox spinner Dennis George, was the wrecker of the Leewards' innings, as he took four wickets for 49 runs.
Shane Jeffers (11) was first to go, bowled by Jason Bennett as he played across the line. Thirty runs later his opening partner Alex Adams (35), who had benefitted from two chances at four and 27, also played across a full length ball from spinner Ryan Austin and was given out leg-before wicket.
Sylvester Joseph (13) was joined by Tonito Willett, but after the two took the score from 55 to 79, Joseph went for a big drive outside the offstump and was caught by 'keeper Patrick Browne off Dwight Washing-ton's bowling. He too did not capitalise on his chances at one, five and 12.
The same duo accounted for Willett (17), who was dismissed a run later, driving outside the offstump at Washington to be caught by Browne the keeper.
Carl Tuckett (14) was George's first victim, as he was beaten in flight and was stumped by Browne.
George then foxed Elsroy Powell to play down the wrong line and he was bowled without scoring.
Captain Stuart Williams (42), who struggled a bit, eventually went, as he tried to slash George through point and was caught by Shawn Findlay. The skipper and Jason Williams (31) had added 61 for the seventh wicket, taking the score from 107 to 168.
The innings soon folded as Jason Williams was run out, trying to take a second run after playing a ball through mid-wicket, which was collected by George.
Virgil Browne (1) tried to hit George over long on and was caught by Gregory
Mahabir, while Sanford (1) was bowled by Austin.
Batting a second time the Leewards lost their first wicket with the score on eleven when Alex Adams (9) went driving at Jason Bennett and was caught at the wicket by keeper Browne.
Jeffers followed 32 runs later leg-before-wicket to Austin, as he tried to sweep.
Just before the close Joseph edged Bennett to Shawn Findlay at slip to leave the Leewards in a perilous position.
