Police facing uniform shortage
published: Thursday | February 5, 2004

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

THERE IS a worrying shortage of uniforms for rank and file members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), according to Sergeant David White, Chairman of the Police Federation.

Sergeant White told The Gleaner yesterday that since September last year, his office has been bombarded with telephone calls from concerned members, some of whom have not been able to change their uniforms as often as they would like.

ENTITLED

Reports are that the federated ranks of the JCF are entitled to five shirts and two pairs of pants, two pairs of boots, two belts, two tunics and a cap each year. The females are entitled to the equivalent.

Up to yesterday, police personnel who made checks at the stores at Elletson Road in Kingston, were told that no uniforms were in stock. Sergeant White said that although he had met with National Security Minister Dr. Peter Phillips to discuss the concern, among other issues, there has been little change in the situation.
