Well done UWI doctors
published: Saturday | February 7, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

HIGHEST COMMENDATIONS to the doctors working on the night shift on Wednesday, January 7 2004 at the University Hospital's Accident and Emergency Unit.

Between 9.00 p.m. and 5.30 a.m. Thursday morning these doctors, including Dr. Lewis, performed, non-stop, a high quality of service in attending to an all night inflow of emergencies. In what seems to be their systematic approach to dealing with incoming patients, the doctors immediately assess to determine the urgency of each case. Patients were constantly checked on; spoken to and from time to time the doctors huddled as if to consult on the more difficult cases.

They appeared unflustered and always in control of situations around them. And, in our case, where specialist attention was required, a doctor was called from apparently her home with a quick response that "I am on my way". This is not the kind of report that generally comes out of public hospitals. But, these UWI doctors, on that particular night, offered quality care and the patients and loved ones appreciated it. Well-done doctors Lewis, Allen, Brown.

I am, etc.,

CLAUDE WILSON
