Urging caution on Property Rights
published: Monday | February 16, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM writing this letter because I fear God. I am scared that if I see this error and say nothing about it, in the end God may chide me for sitting down and saying nothing.

(1) What proof to be provided as to how long the couple live together? Suppose one says it's two years and the other says it's seven years?

(2) In Kingston where I live for the past 42 years, a large number of woman who don't go to work 'sleep with Joe Grind' (a second sweetheart) while the man is gone to work. They don't only have intercourse, but also feed 'Joe Grind' with the man's best drink and meat and food. I saw many of my female tenants do that.

(3) I see a man takes a woman with four children, and school them and provide their needs, and the woman still has a 'Joe Grind'.

(4) No law should be enacted that is likely to support dishonesty and cruelty.

(5) Furthermore, a woman may be living with a man for many years, then meets a new lover, goes off to live with him, and demands a half of the property of the man that she lives with to go and start a life with a new boyfriend.

(6) If a woman wants to leave her boyfriend to go and live with another one, where is the 'divorce proceedings' to regulate that? Must he just give the woman half of his property?

The people making these laws must be very careful they don't find themselves on the wrong side with Jesus. For he shall judge 'the living and the dead'. No one can escape.

The approach is wrong. There are much better ways to handle it. Don't lose your soul through carelessness.

I am etc.,
