Dowdie sprints to victory in women's 60m
published: Sunday | February 22, 2004

FORMER NATIONAL champion Peta-Gaye Dowdie was in winning form at Friday's Hoosier Hills Invitational track and field meet held at the Indiana University Track & Field Centre in Bloomington, Indiana.

Dowdie, who was the centre of controversy at the Sydney Olympics Games, ran 7.35 seconds to win the women's 60m. Running for Puma International, she earlier ran 7.42 in the heats.

The 1999 and 2000 Jamaica national 100m champion and 1999 Pan Am Games bronze medallist, Dowdie, has been struggling to recover world-class form since undergoing knee surgery two years ago.

In winning Friday's event, the 27-year-old athlete, who was also the 200m gold medallist at the 2000 US National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Outdoor championship, defeated Amber Plowden of Indiana (7.54) and Tairisha Sawyer (7.88).
