Supreme Ventures Carnival kicks off!
published: Friday | February 27, 2004

By Toussaint Smith, Staff Reporter

BYRON LEE of the Dragonaires, the man responsible for bringing carnival to Jamaica, will this Friday launch the 'Supreme Ventures Carnival 2004' at Risky Business in Negril, Werstmoreland and will move on to Tropical Beach in Montego Bay on Saturday.

Mr. Lee indicated he has eight new party tunes to release this weekend. They include a new road march tune called Look The Band Coming, along with other new tunes such as Wave Yuh Rag, Insane, Soca Train, Rush, Bonnie and Clyde, Cocoyea, Come Beta and 12 new party tunes to be release at next week's carnival.

As far as dancing is concerned, Mr. Lee plans to introduce eight new dances this year. This weekend, Mr. Lee will unleash only two of the dances the 'Jumbe' (or Duppy Dance) and the 'Rush'.

Mr. Lee told The Gleaner that the 'Jumbe' dance originates from Aruba, accommodates the 'Jumbe' tune and is also is the road march tune from Aruba. "It's all above the knees, not no jump and wave," he said. "The instructions are in the tune." The same goes for the 'Rush' dance.

Mr. Lee added that for this year's carnival "the tunes are more sweeter this year and they are more melodic." The carnival season runs until April 18.
