'Downtown Carnival 2k4' in high gear
published: Friday | February 27, 2004

IT TOOK the place by storm at its inaugural staging in 2001 and now its back, to reap more fun, revelry and excitement on the streets of Kingston.

'Downtown Carnival 2K4' will kick off this Saturday with a road march, starting on the east side of the St. William Grant Park in downtown Kingston, and will feature live music from the Tivoli and St. Jude's marching bands, among others.

The road march will end on Victoria Avenue (Mas Camp downtown), where there will be a party with various costumes on display.

Activities are set to get under way at 4 p.m. and, according to Oneil Smith, one of the organisers, the event is just to signal the beginning of Downtown Carnival.

Smith says an official press launch will be held sometime next week, where a plan of activities will be revealed and a number of costumes displayed.
