Paltry US effort to help Haiti
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS AN American living in Jamaica, I am truly saddened to see my country's response to the situation in Haiti. The Bush administration's apathy towards the suffering of our Haitian neighbours is morally reprehensible.

Illegal taxi crisis
THE EDITOR, Sir: I HAVE a problem with the illegal taxi drivers en route from Half Way Tree to New Kingston. Not only are they hog drivers, but most of them break every road code. I wonder if the vehicles they operate belong to them.

The dishonesty of our leaders
THE EDITOR, Sir: AS I watch the unfolding of recent events surrounding the financial woes of Audley Shaw, I cannot help but feel a sense of hopelessness for Jamaica's future.

Many thanks
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT IS a pleasure to hear that something is finally being done to alleviate the conditions at the Falmouth market. Many thanks to the Minister of Local Government and all the other parties involved for making this happen.

he sins of our fathers
THE EDITOR, Sir: I JOIN my colleagues in expressing my sadness and outrage over the incident at Dunoon Technical High School.

Prove them wrong
THE EDITOR, Sir: SHERLOCK AND Bennett (1998), in the book The Story of the Jamaican People, quoted the words of James Anthony Froude, a noted British intellect in his time...

aitians in need
THE EDITOR, Sir: READING THE letters published in The Gleaner, I find it very sad that the moment some Haitian refugees turn up at Jamaica's coastline so many citizens seem to panic and afraid to provide them with a safe haven.

Urgent, industry in danger
THE EDITOR, Sir: 'SPRING BREAK to rake in US$25m', one headline says. How much does it cost for a fire truck? Does an outside country have to say 'if you cannot protect the visitors, we will have to advise then to look elsewere'?

Enough is enough
THE EDITOR, Sir: IT IS abundantly clear that the gunmen rule the island, not the Parliament. The time has passed for civil rules to deal with the level of outright disregard for human life.
