Credit union gives chairs to Resident Magistrates
published: Friday | February 27, 2004

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THE RESIDENT Magistrates presiding in the local Linstead court in St. Catherine will be able to dispense justice from more comfortable seating, courtesy of a gift of two luxury chairs.

The chairs, valued at $40,000, were donated by the St. Catherine Cooperative Credit Union.

The handing over ceremony took place at the Linstead courthouse on Monday, and was attended by Mayor of Spanish Town, Dr. Raymoth Notice, and members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Lay Magistrate's Association.

Guest speaker Chief Justice Lensley Wolfe thanked the credit union for its goodwill gesture and for looking out for the welfare of those who dispense justice.

In an interview with The Gleaner, the Chief Justice said: "I am thankful to the St. Catherine Cooperative Credit Union for their vision as I know that we (the judges) operate under trying circumstances."

President of the credit union, Silvera Castro, in his address said that crime distracts business interests and that the credit union would continue to assist to effect positive changes.
