PORT ANTONIO, Portland:
AN ALLIANCE has been formed between local Parish Council members in Portland and a team from Inglewood, California to promote deeper relations between the two places.
The alliance dates back to 1992 when a legal document was signed between the then Mayor of Port Antonio, Ezekiah Malloy and witnessed by Curren Pryce Jr., now councilman at District One, Inglewood, who at the time was in Jamaica as an observer.
"Port Antonio was easily selected ahead of the many beauty spots in Jamaica, including Montego Bay and Negril," said the councilman.
"The lush vegetation, its natural attributes, along with its friendly people, triggered an immediate selection."
The councilman also stated that since then several youth exchanges have taken place.
Inglewood has a population of some 130,000 and a budget of US$200 million, according to Mr. Pryce, who adds that his city was interested in expanding the relationship beyond local government.
"We would also like to form a commitment with the private sector, working in tandem in the areas of business and trading," he said.
