THE JAMAICA Broilers Group will be donating best dressed chickens, on an on-going basis, to feed Haitian refugees who are being housed in Portland.
An assessment to determine how much food will be required over the next few months is now being carried out by the Red Cross, in collaboration with the Salvation Army and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).
In a release today, vice-president for HRD and PR at the Jamaica Broilers Group, Claudette Cooke, said the Group was prepared to supply "as much chicken as is needed, for as long as necessary", to meet the needs of the refugees. She disclosed that the Group's President and Chief Executive Officer, Robert Levy, is already scheduled to travel to Portland on Monday, March 1, to finalise the logistical arrangements for the on-going support.
By that time, Mrs. Cooke added, the amount of chicken required on a daily basis will be known and arrangements will then be made to deliver the protein to the Red Cross representatives - the main group currently responsible for feeding those fleeing to Jamaica from the civil war-torn French Caribbean island.
