Charity begins at home

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM very concerned that Jamaica has taken up the enormous task of caring for the Haitian refugees. There are so many homeless and mentally-ill persons roaming the streets. At every corner we see helpless children begging. We cannot afford to set up programmes and places of safety for our own Jamaican people, yet, we are taking in people who are equally in need if not worse off and tending to them! Charity begins at home.
I am, etc.,
